Make the survey observable
The national solar-installer qualification includes site assessment and system installation competencies. For a customer, the practical question is whether the proposal records the conditions found at your site. A photograph of a roof alone is not a design. Request a clear account of access, shade, roof condition, cable routes and equipment locations.
- Discuss roof ownership, future construction and maintenance access.
- Ask who confirms structural suitability and mounting details.
- Identify the proposed inverter position and essential electrical upgrades.
Bring evidence, leave with decisions
INGAA planning checklist: collect recent electricity bills and explain new loads you expect to add. Photograph the meter area only from a safe position. Ask for drawings or a marked plan that makes the proposal understandable. Any generation estimate should state its assumptions and explain the effect of shade and seasonal weather.
- Separate survey findings from items still awaiting confirmation.
- Ask for a written scope of exclusions.
- Keep a copy of the final agreed design for maintenance.
